After Ram kaaj, it's garib kaaj by PM: Amit Shah on Bharat Ratna to Karpoori Thakur

 Home Minister Amit Shah on Wednesday conferred Bharat Ratna on socialist icon and former Bihar chief minister Karpoori Thakur (posthumously) as Garib Kharge (organization for the poor), the NDA government said on Wednesday. Regarding this decision, he said, I congratulate Prime Minister Narendra Modi on this step. A million poor people in this country.

Commemorating Thakur's 100th birth anniversary, PM Shah said  PM Modi has fulfilled the 500-year-old dream of  devotees to have Ram Lalla live in a big temple instead of a tent. “On January 23rd, the long-awaited request of millions of poor, underprivileged and exploited Dalits and tribals to award the Bharat Ratna to the people's leader (Jan Nayak) for achieving social justice.

The Union home minister said political parties had been demanding Karpoori Thakur's appointment in the Bharat Ratna for many years but "completely forgot about that demand" when they came to power. "Today, on Karpoori Thakur's 100th birth anniversary, Mr. Narendra Modi, who was born in the same poor family as him (Thakur), awarded him the Bharat Ratna," Shah said. Mr Shah also criticized the Congress' "tradition of honoring only the leaders of one family".

At a separate event, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said  Thakur's  life was dedicated to social justice and empowerment of the underprivileged. “Yesterday you all must have seen  the country take a big decision.”

He  also served as chief minister of Bihar twice. Despite this, he never abandoned his modesty and worked hard in all areas of  society. Jannayak Karpoori Thakur has always been known for its simplicity. His  life was dedicated to social justice and the advancement of the underprivileged. “His integrity continues to be an example,” he said.
