What Meta Is Planning
Meta has announced plans to test new premium subscription models across Instagram, Facebook, and WhatsApp. These subscriptions will unlock exclusive features focused on productivity, creativity, and advanced AI capabilities, according to the company.
Different Subscriptions for Different Apps
Meta clarified that it will experiment with multiple subscription bundles, and each app will offer a distinct set of paid features. While the core experience will remain free, premium users will gain enhanced control over sharing, audience management, and engagement tools.
AI at the Center of Meta’s Strategy
As part of its subscription push, Meta plans to scale Manus, an AI agent it recently acquired for a reported $2 billion. Manus will be integrated into Meta’s apps while also being offered as a standalone subscription for businesses.
A shortcut to Manus AI on Instagram is already under development, according to reverse engineer Alessandro Paluzzi.
Paid AI Features and Vibes Video Generation
Meta will also test paid access to AI features, including Vibes, its AI-powered short-form video generation tool. While Vibes has been free so far, Meta plans to introduce a freemium model, allowing users to subscribe for more video creation opportunities per month.
Instagram Subscription Features (Expected)
According to early findings, Instagram’s subscription may include:
<Unlimited audience lists
<Ability to see followers who don’t follow back
<Option to view Stories anonymously
Details for Facebook and WhatsApp subscriptions are yet to be revealed.
Separate From Meta Verified
Meta confirmed these subscriptions will be separate from Meta Verified. While Meta Verified targets creators and businesses with verification badges and support tools, the new subscriptions are designed for everyday users, creators, and small businesses alike.
Revenue Growth vs Subscription Fatigue
With increasing competition for monthly subscriptions, Meta faces the challenge of convincing users to pay. However, Snapchat+ has proven demand exists, surpassing 16 million subscribers at $3.99 per month.
Meta says it will actively gather user feedback as subscriptions roll out in the coming months.
