After soldiers recovered the bodies of six hostages from the Gaza Strip, where the military is battling Palestinian operatives, Israel's primary union issued an order for a nationwide general strike on Sunday.
The military said that on Saturday, the remains of the six people were found "from an underground tunnel in the Rafah area" in southern Gaza.
They were among the 251 hostages taken by Hamas when it attacked Israel on October 7 and started the current war. 97 of them are still held captive in Gaza, and the army says 33 of them are dead.

Tel Aviv: After soldiers recovered the bodies of six hostages from the Gaza Strip, where the military is battling Palestinian operatives, Israel's primary union issued an order for a nationwide general strike on Sunday.
The military said that on Saturday, the remains of the six people were found "from an underground tunnel in the Rafah area" in southern Gaza.
They were among the 251 hostages taken by Hamas when it attacked Israel on October 7 and started the current war. 97 of them are still held captive in Gaza, and the army says 33 of them are dead.
Scores were delivered during an arranged one-week détente in November, yet family members of those actually held accept insufficient is being finished to free them.
A negotiated "deal for the return of the hostages," according to the Hostages and Missing Families Forum, was urgently required.
A statement stated that the six hostages "would likely still be alive" if it weren't for the "delays, sabotage, and excuses" during the months of mediation efforts.
In an effort to persuade the government to come to an agreement regarding the release of the remaining prisoners, the families called for a nationwide general strike.
Shortly after that, the powerful Histadrut trade union leader in Israel called for a "complete strike" on Monday to support the hostages.
'Complete strike' Histadrut chairman Arnon bar David said in a statement, "I have come to the conclusion that only our intervention can shake those who need to be shaken."
"The entire Israeli economy will go on complete strike tomorrow at six in the morning."
The six were "abducted alive on the morning of October 7" and "brutally murdered by Hamas terrorists shortly before we reached them," according to military spokesman Daniel Hagari.
Izzat al-Rishq, a Hamas official based in Qatar, claimed that the six people were "killed by Zionist (Israeli) bombing," which the military denied.

Carmel Gat, taken from a kibbutz community near the Gaza border, Eden Yerushalmi, Almog Sarusi, Ori Danino, US-Israeli Hersh Goldberg-Polin, and Russian-Israeli Alexander Lobanov, all taken by Palestinians from a music festival site, were the six hostages.
