Nitish Kumar last took oath as  chief minister  in 2022, when he severed  ties with the NDA and joined the RJD-Congress-Left alliance to become chief minister of Bihar's Mahagathbandhan. From 2022 to 2024, Nitish Kumar led the formation of an opposition coalition to contest alongside the BJP in the 2024 Indian parliamentary elections. In June 2023, even before India was named, Nitish Kumar presided over the first-ever opposition party conference.
