Kansas City shooting: One killed, 8 children among 22 injured at Chiefs' Super Bowl parade

Kansas City Police Chief Stacey Graves said at a news conference detailing the victims of the shooting that three people were taken into custody and that fans may have been involved in the suspect's arrest, but that could not be immediately confirmed. said. "I'm angry about what happened today.

People were screaming in the background.  Another video showed two bystanders chasing someone, attacking them and restraining them until two police officers arrived. 

Kansas City has long struggled with gun violence and  was one of nine cities targeted by the U.S. Department of Justice in 2020 to crack down on violent crime. In 2023, the city set a record with 182 murders, most of which involved firearms. Mayor Quinton Lucas is joining mayors across the country in calling for new laws to reduce gun violence, including mandatory universal background checks. Lucas, who attended the celebration with his wife and mother, said his heart was broken and he felt angry. "This is a tragedy that Kansas City never expected, and one that we will remember for some time to come," Lucas said. 

What happened at the parade? Lisa Money of Kansas City, Kansas, was collecting confetti toward the end of the parade when she heard someone yell, "Get down, get down, everyone!"
